On-site Wedding Coordinator vs. External Wedding planner

April 28, 2017  |  Good Questions
The venue has an on-site coordinator that usually serves as the "wedding planner." Can I still have my wedding planner to coordinate our wedding?
While most venues offer wedding coordination to some extent, such service will never be close to what your wedding planner will do for you. We work with venue coordinators all the time and having a wedding planner has never been a problem. So the answer is yes, you can and should be able to bring your own wedding planner, especially if you have already secured your services. However, it's a little trickier when it comes to all-inclusive hotels; once, we had a client who had to pay 1000 USD for the sole fact of bringing us as her planning team. Our suggestion is to negotiate this before you sign your contract. You have a lot of leverage before you secure the venue. Once it's signed and sealed, it's sad to say that your negotiation chances are reduced to nothing.
